What Are The Different Types Of Laminated Fabrics?

Laminated fabrics are composites that combine different materials and have multiple functions. Types may be classified by structure, process, material and use as follows:
1.By laminated structure
Double laminated fabric
Structure: It consists of two layers of material, usually film and fabric (e.g. plastic film/fabric) or rubber and fabric (e.g. rubber laminate).
Uses: Raincoat, waterproof bag, simple packaging material, etc.
Three-layer laminated fabric
Structure: A mezzanine structure is used to combine the lining, film and fabric at the same time (e.g. nylon elastic fabric/polyvinyl chloride foam material/elastic fabric).
Features: abrasion resistance, thermal insulation and waterproofing, suitable for high strength demand scenarios.
Uses: Field sportswear, military protective clothing, medical surgical protective clothing, etc..
Multilayered fabrics
Structure: Composite of four or more layers of materials, by superimposing different functional membranes (such as antibacterial membranes, breathable membranes, etc.) to achieve various properties.
Features: Highly functional, customizable design.
Application scope: nuclear, biochemical protective clothing, high-end sports equipment, special environmental work clothes, etc..
2. By Production Process
Adhesive laminated fabrics
Process: the use of liquid adhesive (such as polyurethane, polyacrylic acid) spray, coating or printing, such as bond materials, solidified to form a composite structure.
Features: Mature process, wide applicability, but need to control the seepage phenomenon of adhesive.
Uses: wall coverings, curtain, car interiors, etc.
Hot Melt Laminated Fabrics
Process: Use of hot melt glue (such as thermoplastic polyurethane TPU) and in the state of heating and melting of the material, curing after cooling.
Subcategories:
Pre-processed hot melt lamination: Fabric is precoated with hot melt glue to make an adhesive lining, which is heated and pressurized when used to compound with other materials.
Adhesive hot melt lamination: Interlayer bonding is achieved by interlayer hot melt film or meshes.
Coating layering: Lowdensity polyethylene or TPU is sprayed on the base fabric at high temperatures to form coated fabrics (e.g. tent fabric, jackets).
Features: solvent pollution, good environmental protection, high production efficiency.
Uses: Apparel accessories, industrial packaging, medical supplies, etc..
Flame melting method Laminated Fabrics
How to make it: the polyurethane foam plastic film in a hot flame to make it sticky, quickly overlap with the base fabric and cool under pressure.
Features: It is lightweight, warm and breathable, but needs to control flame temperature to avoid material damage.
Application scope: travel shoes, warm shoes, car interiors, etc..
Rolling Laminated Fabrics
Process: Tighten sticky plastic film (e.g. PVC) and reinforcing material (e.g. cloth, paper) by rolling roller.
Features: It can produce artificial leather or coated cloth with smooth surface and uniform thickness.
Uses: Luggage, car seat cushions, industrial conveyor belts etc.
3. By Composition Material
Thin-film laminated fabrics
Structure: Plastic film (such as PE, PU, PTFE) and fabric composite.
Features: Excellent waterproofing and breathability, such as PTFE microporous film laminated fabric (Gore-tex) for "breathing".
Uses: High-grade outdoor clothing, medical protective clothing, tents, etc..
Foam laminated fabrics
Structure: Foam plastic (such as polyurethane) and fabric composite.
Features: Lightweight, warm, absorbent, soundproof, but poor abrasion resistance.
Uses: Shoe materials, automobile interior, building insulation materials etc..
Metal foil laminated fabric
Structure: Metal foil (such as aluminum foil) is combined with fabric.
Features: heat reflection and radiation protection properties, but poor flexibility.
Uses: special environmental clothing, aerospace materials, etc..
4. By Application
Industrial laminated fabrics
Uses: Conveyor belts, filter material, electrical insulation materials, etc., high strength and corrosion resistance requirements.
Laminated fabrics protective clothing
Uses: military protective clothing, fire protection clothing, nuclear, chemical and biological protective clothing, etc., need to be integrated waterproof, breathable, flame retardant, chemical infiltration and other functions.
Laminated fabrics Medical Supplies
Uses: Surgical gowns, medical curtains, wound dressings, etc., need to meet the requirements of asepsis, antibacterial, breathable, etc..
Laminated fabrics sports equipment
Uses: Sportswear, snowboarding, tents, etc., consider both lightweight and functional.
Laminated fabrics agricultural materials
Uses: crop covering cloth, seedling substrate, etc., requires good breathability, waterproofing and weatherresistance.
